SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol which is used to transfer encoded information between a client and a web server, making it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any info. Many tech-savvy customers choose SSH due to the better level of security. The connection is made and the commands are sent through a command line. The available options depend on the type of web hosting service - on a shared server, for example, files may be relocated or deleted, databases may be imported and exported, and archives could be created or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, your options are much more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software may be set up and more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, because full root access is required and all the other clients on that server would be affected. While SSH is used largely with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs too - Windows, Mac OS, and so forth.

SSH Telnet in Shared Hosting

In case you have a shared hosting account with us and you'd like to manage your content remotely using SSH, you can get SSH access to the account using your Hepsia Control Panel. If your plan does not come with this feature as standard, you could add it with several mouse clicks through the Upgrades menu. In the SSH section of the Control Panel, you'll see the host, the port number and the username that you should use when you connect to the account. You may also select what password you would want to use, given that it doesn't have to be the same as the one for the account. We have prepared numerous Help articles where you could find each of the commands you will be able to use with a shared hosting plan, along with examples of how they are used. Furthermore, if SSH access is allowed for your account, you will be able to establish a Secure FTP (SFTP) connection through a standard client such as FileZilla, for instance.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you will be able to add it via the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. Either way, you can activate and de-activate the feature with a single click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same spot, you will find the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box in which you can easily type the password that you would like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as much as you require. A full list of the commands which can be executed in a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and several examples. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client which supports this kind of connections.
