.MOBI Domain Names
More and more people use mobile devices to access the World Wide Web, so the demand for mobile-friendly websites is constantly increasing. To meet this demand, the body that handles the universal top-level domain extensions, ICANN, launched the dot MOBI domain extension in 2005. The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the notion behind this domain extension is that all websites that use it are required to comply with certain rules. In other words, all .MOBI websites should be created to be viewed properly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” drawn by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in cooperation with the .MOBI Registry organization. These incorporate how a site is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.
The rules have raised some questions considering the fact that the generic top-level domain extension is the only one that specifies what devices has to be able to open a website and the way in which this needs to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a site should be created in such a way as to be viewed by the majority of browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
In view of the fact that the .MOBI Registry does not offer domains directly, you can purchase a dot MOBI domain with any third-party company, such as ours. If you have an already active domain, you can also transfer it to our firm if you get its EPP transfer code from your current registrar firm. If you do that, you’ll be able to manage your domain(s) and web hosting account from a single place – our Hepsia Control Panel interface.
